The 2021 Greendale Schools Strategic Plan set a goal to support innovation to remain competitive and a district of choice for families. As part of this work, the Board of Education created an Ad Hoc Committee in spring 2023 to address the priorities of Community Park and Recreation in alignment with the Strategic Plan.
Specifically the Board tasked the Ad Hoc Committee with the following:

Revisiting the Park and Recreation Department Mission: The Greendale Park and Recreation Department is to provide comprehensive programs, services, facilities, activities and life-long learning opportunities to enrich the quality of life in the Greendale community.

Assessing the facility conditions of indoor and outdoor recreation spaces to support community programming.

Advising on future programming priorities for the Park and Recreation Department
Upon completing its review, the Ad Hoc Committee made these recommendations:

New mission statement: The Greendale Park and Recreation Department offers engaging opportunities and accessible experiences to enhance health, happiness, and belonging for all members of the community.

The Committee recommended these focus areas:
- Trail Signage, Maintenance & Connections (running, walking, biking)
- Athletic Activities Gym Space (weekday evening gym space access for ALL athletic activities)
- Outdoor Athletic Fields Appropriate Maintenance & Improvements
- Outdoor Restrooms in Greendale Parks
- ADA Accessibility (Outdoor: Community playgrounds and outdoor rec spaces; Indoor: GMS Upper Gym, GHS Gym Balcony, locker rooms).
- High School Pool (repairs or investment in new pool)
- The Committee advised the following regarding programming:
- Survey middle school students for program needs
- Survey high school students for program needs
- Add Technology Programming
- Add Middle School Programming
